Charleston’s Trading Eights is a jazz residency at Redux Contemporary Art Center fostering the artistic development of established and emerging jazz musicians both individually and collaboratively. Through monthly performances, artists will elaborate on and explore their own musical concepts in an environment that encourages artistic freedom, while interacting with and responding to the diversity of their group. These performances, alongside a series of lectures, will create a new platform for the Charleston community to engage, connect with, and form a deeper understanding of the local jazz culture.
Performance I – Sunday, May 22nd 8-11pm
How It Works
Performances will open with a 45 minute set from our artists-in-residence. Following a short intermission, our AIR will direct an open jazz session, where jazz musicians from the community will be welcomed on stage. Each night will close with a final performance piece, once again by our artists-in-residence.
Are you a jazz musician interested in participating in our open jazz session?
What you need to know:
Our open jazz session will be based off of jazz standards and the Great American Songbook. This session is open to the public of all ages. Instruments from the rhythm section (drums, bass, and keys) as well as a vocal mic will be provided. All other performers will need to come prepared with their own instruments. Please feel free to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions you may have.
